US spot Ethereum ETFs bled money for several straight sessions in early October 2026, led by BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA). Crypto Briefing reported sector outflows of $201.9 million on October 6 and $160.9 million on October 7, while SoSoValue data cited by KuCoin showed roughly $542 million in Ether ETF outflows over the week of October 5 to 9.

How big were the Ethereum ETF outflows?

According to Crypto Briefing, US spot Ether ETFs saw sector-wide outflows of $201.9 million on October 6, a figure the outlet said was almost entirely attributable to ETHA, followed by $160.9 million on October 7. KuCoin, citing SoSoValue, reported that spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs together shed about $1.22 billion over the week of October 5 to 9, with Ethereum products accounting for roughly $542 million of that total. Crypto Briefing put total sector assets for US spot Ether ETFs at about $17.36 billion in early October. Month-to-date tallies varied by source and cutoff: one count put early-October Ethereum ETF outflows at roughly $635 million, while another reported about $579 million in withdrawals, a spread that again reflects differing data providers rather than contradictory reporting.

Which fund drove the selling?

BlackRock’s ETHA was the clear driver. Crypto Briefing reported that ETHA alone shed about $116.05 million on October 7, the largest single-fund redemption among US Ethereum ETFs that day, and that it accounted for well over two-thirds of the sector’s October 7 outflow. KuCoin’s reading of SoSoValue data attributed about $477 million of the week’s Ethereum outflows to ETHA. Crypto Briefing noted that despite the redemptions, ETHA has still drawn more than $13 billion in cumulative net inflows since its July 2024 launch, underscoring that the October selling came off a large base. The pressure was not entirely new: Crypto Briefing reported that ETHA had already shed about $110 million on September 16, part of roughly $224 million in sector outflows during that September stretch, so the October redemptions extended a pattern that had surfaced weeks earlier.

How long did the outflow streak run?

Decrypt reported that Ethereum funds extended a multi-session losing streak during the period, describing eight straight sessions of outflows that totaled roughly $640 million at one point, and later counting a run that reached nine consecutive trading days after the funds shed about $56.1 million on a Friday. The exact streak length varies by the cutoff each outlet uses and by the data provider, but the direction was consistent across trackers: sustained institutional redemptions from Ether products through the first half of the month.

How did Bitcoin ETF flows compare?

Bitcoin ETFs were not uniformly negative over the same stretch. Crypto Briefing noted that US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of about $119 million on October 6, the same session Ethereum products saw their $201.9 million exit. By the full week, however, KuCoin reported that Bitcoin ETFs lost about $681 million from October 5 to 9, ending a run of inflows, so the combined Bitcoin-and-Ethereum weekly outflow reached roughly $1.22 billion. Decrypt separately flagged a particularly heavy single day for Bitcoin funds, which it said marked their worst session since the spring. That reversal followed a strong September, when, according to the same reporting, US spot Bitcoin ETFs had strung together a multi-session run of inflows worth billions, making the early-October shift a notable change in tone across both products.

What is driving the reallocation?

Crypto Briefing characterized the Ethereum outflows as consistent with a strategic reallocation by investors rather than a wholesale exit from digital assets, noting the redemptions landed during a broader risk-off stretch for crypto. The ETF moves coincided with weaker spot prices across major tokens in early October and a jump in leveraged liquidations around October 9, when Ethereum posted the largest single-asset liquidation losses of that session. Flow data providers such as SoSoValue and Farside use different methodologies and cutoffs, which is why daily and weekly totals differ between outlets. Decrypt’s coverage also noted commentary from BitMine chairman Tom Lee, whose firm has built one of the largest corporate Ether treasuries, suggesting the company would stop buying Ethereum once it owned 5% of supply, a reminder that corporate treasury demand sits alongside ETF flows as a driver of spot Ether demand.

What does this mean for the market?

Sustained ETF outflows reduce one source of spot demand that had supported Ether through 2026, but the figures to date do not by themselves indicate a structural break in longer-term accumulation, and analysts cited across the coverage framed the moves as positioning rather than capitulation. This article is informational and does not contain price predictions or investment advice. Readers tracking the trend can follow daily net-flow updates from SoSoValue and Farside, which publish issuer-level data for each US spot Ethereum ETF. ETHA remains the largest US spot Ether fund by assets, so its daily creations and redemptions tend to dominate the sector’s reported totals, and a single large institutional ticket can swing a day’s figure. For that reason, analysts generally caution against reading any one session as a trend, preferring multi-week flow averages to gauge whether institutional appetite for Ether exposure is genuinely cooling or simply pausing.
