Who we are
STNews is an independent digital publication covering stablecoins, real-world assets, regulation, and on-chain finance. We are based in the United Kingdom and process data in line with the UK GDPR, EU GDPR (where applicable), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Information you give us
- Newsletter subscription. Your email address (and optional first name) when you subscribe.
- Contact and tips. Anything you send to our editorial, press, or tips channels — including documents and attachments.
- Comments and submissions. If you participate on our site or social channels.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data. IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, and timestamps.

- Analytics. Aggregate, anonymised data on which pages perform well, average reading time, and similar.
Information from third parties
We may receive demographic data from advertising and analytics partners. We do not buy personal data.
How we use your information
- To deliver the newsletter you subscribed to.
- To respond to messages you send us.
- To analyse aggregate site usage and improve content.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations including journalistic source protection.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share email subscriber lists with advertisers.
Cookies
We use essential cookies (for site function), analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation), and advertising cookies (Google AdSense) where you have consented. The cookie consent banner lets you opt in or out of non-essential cookies at any time.
How we share data
- Service providers we contract for hosting (Hetzner), email delivery (Mailchimp), analytics (Google), and CDN/security (Cloudflare). These providers act on our instructions.
- Legal requirements: if compelled by valid legal process. We will challenge any request that we believe overreaches journalistic source protection.
- Business transfers: in the event of a merger or sale, your data may transfer to the acquirer subject to the same protections.
Data retention
- Newsletter list: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact form messages: 24 months.
- Analytics data: 14 months (Google Analytics 4 default).
- Server access logs: 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on your location you may have the right to: access your data, correct inaccuracies, delete your data, port your data to another service, restrict or object to processing, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g. the UK ICO or your EU equivalent).
California residents have specific rights under the CCPA including the right to know what data we hold, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of any sale (we do not sell data, so this opt-out is moot but documented).

International transfers
Some service providers operate outside the UK/EEA. Where personal data leaves the UK/EEA, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards as required by GDPR Article 46.
Children’s privacy
STNews is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has subscribed, contact us and we will delete the record.
Source protection
We take confidential source protection seriously. Tips submitted via Signal, ProtonMail, or our SecureDrop instance are handled with elevated privacy controls and are not stored on standard newsroom systems. See our Tip Us page for full instructions.
Updates to this policy
We may revise this policy as our practices evolve. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and to newsletter subscribers. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
